Peter L. Smith, President and CEOMr. Smith began his AMERICAN SYSTEMS career in August 1980, and has been instrumental in aligning the company’s business development and delivery of strategic offerings with customer needs. Mr. Smith has held a number of roles with increased responsibility within the company before being named President and Chief Executive Officer in 2014.
Mr. Smith previously served as the Company's Chief Operating Officer; Executive Vice President and General Manager; Vice President and Executive Director; Vice President of Engineering; Vice President and Director; Program Manager; and Systems Engineer.
In addition to his role as AMERICAN SYSTEMS’ President and CEO, he is Vice Chairman of the company’s Board of Directors. Mr. Smith also serves in several industry leadership roles including the TechAmerica Public Sector Board of Directors and the Professional Services Council Board of Directors as well as other industry and community organizations. In January, 2015, Mr. Smith was named to the Wash100 list of influential leaders in the Government Contracting community by GovCon Executive.
Mr. Smith received a B.S. in Physics from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from George Washington University.Back to top
Peter Whitfield, Chief Financial Officer Mark Danisewicz, Chief Financial OfficerMr. Whitfield is a seasoned executive with more than 30 years of diverse finance, accounting and operations experience with privately-held and publicly-traded companies. Mr. Whitfield was named AMERICAN SYSTEMS’ CFO in June, 2015, following his tenure as CFO of Shared Spectrum Company, a provider of technology solutions to federal and commercial customers and as CFO of GTSI (now Unicom Government). Mr. Whitfield was named Corporate Treasurer in September 2015.
Prior to his tenure at GTSI, Mr. Whitfield held executive leadership positions in operations and finance for a number of business-to-consumer, business-to-business, and companies, including InPhonic, Broadwing, Inc., Winstar and MCI.
Mr. Whitfield’s areas of expertise span financial planning, forecasting, investor relations, mergers and acquisitions, audits, and compliance with federal regulations. Mr. Whitfield earned a BS in Business Administration from Pace University.Back to top
Brian Neely, Chief Information Officer/Chief Technology Officer
As CIO and CTO for AMERICAN SYSTEMS, Mr. Neely leads the overall vision, planning, and management of all technology, information and cybersecurity-related resources throughout the enterprise. Mr. Neely began his career at AMERICAN SYSTEMS in 1996, and spent his first ten years directly supporting the Army, Navy and Intel communities.
Mr. Neely’s business insight has grown from over a decade as a C-level executive in a progressive technology organization, building on the knowledge and insight gained as an alumnus of the Wharton School of Business (University of Pennsylvania) and through an education in strategy and innovation from MIT’s Sloan School of Management. On the technical side, Mr. Neely has 20 years of real-world information technology experience, with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Virginia Tech, a Masters in Information Technology from Carnegie Mellon’s Heinz School of Policy & Management (graduating summa cum laude), a CIO Certification from CMU and the Federal CIO Council, and a Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) Certification from Carnegie Mellon’s CyLab (an NSA Center of Excellence).
Mr. Neely was selected as an InformationWeek 500 winner for Digital Business, a top 250 leader for the Innovative Use of Technology, and was recognized as one of ExecutiveBiz’s Top 10 Federal sector CTOs. Mr. Neely is certified in Lean Six Sigma, ITIL, & CMMI, and is a practitioner of PMP, ISO 9001, and multiple IT security frameworks.Back to top
Ms. Braccio joined AMERICAN SYSTEMS in 2007, and is currently responsible for the strategic alignment of human talent to achieve the corporate mission. As VP of Human Resources, she oversees the company’s entire human capital function including talent management, compensation, benefits, HRIS as well as community affairs and charitable programs.
Ms. Braccio has more than 25 years of HR experience and has held senior HR leadership roles at World Kitchen, StarBand Communications, and Sunrise Assisted Living as well as HR positions at Fortune 500 companies such as GTE (now Verizon), Contel, Eaton Corporation, and National Semiconductor. She received her M.S., with honors, in Human Resource Management from Johns Hopkins University, and a B.S, magna cum laude, in Business Management from the University of Connecticut. She is a member of various HR organizations including the Washington Technical Personnel Forum, WorldatWork, National Association of Professional Women and the Society for Human Resource Management. She has served for more than 10 years not only as a member of the Board of Directors for the Washington Area Compensation and Benefits Association but also as a Committee Member for the Human Resource Association of the National Capital Area. Ms. Braccio serves on AMERICAN SYSTEMS’ Ethics Committee and is the Chairperson of the company's ESOP Administative Committee.

Mr. Kopfman joined AMERICAN SYSTEMS in 1978, and has more than 30 years of experience in government and commercial contracting. As Executive Vice President of Contracts and Administration/Chief Compliance Officer, he spearheads the company's Ethics program, and manages the contracts, legal, purchasing, pricing, Mergers and Acquisition, security, facilities, and general administration support departments within the company. Mr. Kopfman is the Corporate Secretary, the Chairman of AMERICAN SYSTEMS' Ethics Committee and serves on the Company's Board of Directors.
Mr. Kopfman earned a B.S. degree in Accounting from Radford University. He is a member of the Executive Advisory Council of the National Contracts Management Association and is active in the Professional Services Council.Back to top
William C. Hoover has been a leader in the information systems and services market sector for more than thirty years and served as the President and CEO of AMERICAN SYSTEMS from 2005 to 2014. Before taking the helm of AMERICAN SYSTEMS, Mr. Hoover served as President and COO of Dynamics Research Corporation where he led the development of the company’s business growth strategy, focusing on maximizing return to shareholders by delivering documented and repeatable business solutions in identified strategic business areas.
Prior positions held by Mr. Hoover include President and Chief Executive Officer of FutureNext Consulting (FNC), a commercially-focused systems integration and consulting services company; Senior Vice President of Oracle Service Industries; Executive Vice President of BDM International, Inc.; and President & COO of PRC, Inc. Mr. Hoover began his career as a product engineer for Ford Motor Company.
Mr. Hoover also founded and led several consulting firms, serving mid-tier companies in transition, where he used his significant and successful experience to manage dynamic organizational change while simultaneously building shareholder value.
Mr. Hoover is a veteran officer of the U.S. Navy and graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering. He is active in his industry and community and serves on several professional-/industry-related and Not for Profit boards, including: NDIA, Board of Directors; Marymount University, Board of Trustees; Marymount University/ School of Business Administration, Board of Visitors; Board of Directors, Northern Virginia Family Service, among others. Mr. Hoover has also served on the Electronics Industry Association, Board of Governors; AFCEA International, Board of Directors. Additionally, he has served as Co-Chairman of Leukemia Society of America, National Capital Region’s Gala Fundraiser and was a member of the George Washington University/Loudoun Campus, Board of Advisors. In 2009, Mr. Hoover was named to the Federal 100 List and was named "Executive of the Year" at the 7th annual Greater Washington Area Government Contractor Awards.
Mr. FitzPatrick joined the AMERICAN SYSTEMS Board of Directors on March 1, 2006 and was appointed the Chairman of the Audit and Finance Committee on that same date. He also serves as a member of the Board’s Human Resources Committee.
He has more than 30 years of financial, executive, and management experience, which includes serving as Senior Vice President and CFO at DynCorp, at American Mobile Satellite Corporation, and at PRC, Inc., and in numerous senior executive leadership positions. At PRC, he was instrumental in leading the company’s merger and acquisition activity.
Mr. FitzPatrick holds an Master of Business Administration in Finance from the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton Graduate School of Business, and a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from the United States Naval Academy.
Mr. Johnson was elected to the AMERICAN SYSTEMS Board of Directors on September 25, 2006 and was appointed the Chairman of the Human Resources Committee on that same date. He also serves as a member of the Board’s Audit & Finance Committee.
Mr. Johnson, currently associated with the INPUT Consulting Group, was the President of U.S. Operations for CACI International, Inc. He managed the company’s largest subsidiary unit, with primary operations in the federal solutions marketplace. Before joining CACI, Mr. Johnson was President and CEO of Tracor Enterprise Solutions (formerly Cordant) and a Senior Vice President with Planning Research Corporation, Inc. As a leader in the federal market for more than 20 years, Mr. Johnson has a wealth of experience in business development, mergers and acquisitions, and visibility enhancement in the federal marketplace.
Mr. Johnson has twice been named to Federal Computer Week’s Federal 100 list of top IT executives. A graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, Mr. Johnson served with the U.S. Army Infantry in Vietnam as a military advisor.
